Podcast audio cleanup

Take the background out of every voice and land on the loudness podcast apps expect, in one pass.

Cleaned on your own device — the file is never uploaded.

The problem

What gets in the way

Guests record from kitchens, bedrooms and offices on whatever mic they have. One track hisses, another has a fan behind it, and the levels jump between speakers and between episodes.

  • A guest’s laptop fan or air conditioner
  • Hiss from a USB mic turned up too far
  • Street noise through an open window
  • Keyboard clicks while someone takes notes

What you get

A clean voice, ready to use

  • Background noise removed from each voice
  • Loudness set to −16 LUFS, the common target for podcast apps
  • True peaks held under −1 dBTP, so the file doesn’t clip after encoding
  • Clipped peaks from a hot recording rebuilt before cleaning

How it works

Four steps, one clean file

  1. Step 1: Pick your settings

Set Loudness to Podcast (−16 LUFS). Choose WAV if you will still edit or mix; Same as original or MP3 for a finished episode.

  2. Step 2: Drop the episode or a track

Drop the full episode, or each speaker’s track one after another if you recorded them separately.

  3. Step 3: Let it clean

Your browser cleans the episode on your own computer and it is never uploaded. The first file takes a little longer while our speech AI loads.

  4. Step 4: Compare and keep it

The clean file downloads by itself when it is ready. Play the A/B preview to switch between original and cleaned at the same moment, or change a setting and choose Download again.

Output format
Same as original

−16 LUFS is what most podcast apps play at. If the episode still needs editing, pick WAV so it isn’t compressed twice.

Set them in the tool before you add the file: they are used for the automatic download, and you can change them afterwards and download again.

Good to know

  • Echo and room reverb stay as recorded: it removes noise, not the sound of the room.
  • Intro and outro music is turned down where it plays under speech. Add music after cleaning the voice for the best result.

Formats & limits

What goes in, what comes out

  • WAV
  • MP3
  • M4A
  • AAC
  • FLAC
  • OGG
  • Opus

Same as original: MP3 stays MP3, M4A and AAC come back as M4A, and WAV, FLAC and OGG/Opus come back as WAV. Or choose WAV, MP3 or M4A.

  • MP3, M4A and video audio tracks are written in mono at about the source bitrate (at least 160 kbps): the cleaned voice sits in the centre.
  • WAV keeps the sample rate (up to 48 kHz), bit depth and channel count; a stereo file comes back with the voice in both channels.

FAQ

Common questions

Should I clean each speaker’s track separately?

If you have separate tracks, yes: clean each one, then mix them. Every track gets its own noise removal and you keep control of the balance. A single mixed file works too.

What loudness should a podcast be?

Around −16 LUFS is the common target, and it is what the Podcast setting gives you, with true peaks kept under −1 dBTP so encoding doesn’t clip.

Will it remove my intro music?

No. Where it hears music it turns it down under the voice, and only so far, so a music bed dips instead of cutting in and out. For a clean music level, add it after you clean the voices.

Can I clean a full-length episode?

Yes. A long episode works the same as a short clip and the progress bar shows the time left. How long a file can be depends on your plan; see the limits on this page.

Can it write show notes or a transcript of the episode?

On a paid plan it gives you the transcript to write them from. Save the episode to your library and choose Transcribe: you get plain text for show notes and an accessible transcript, plus a version with timestamps, in 30 languages, or automatic detection. Only then is the audio sent to our speech AI, which keeps nothing; copy or download the result, because we don’t store it. Check names and terms before you publish.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The cleaning runs inside your browser, on your own computer. Your audio and video never leave your device; our server only receives the file’s length and format to check your allowance.

Is it free?

A free account cleans 30 minutes a month, no card needed. The paid plans, Creator (9 hours), Pro (30 hours) and Studio (100 hours) a month, take files up to 3 hours and 4 GB each. See the pricing page for details.
